April: National Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month
April is Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month, a time to focus on awareness, and to invite discussion and action around the critical issue of sexual violence and prevention. Its impact is profound, often spanning all parts of an affected person’s life.
Sexual assault is defined as any sexual activity without explicit consent. Shocking statistics reveal that more than half of women and nearly one-third of men in the U.S. have experienced sexual violence, with higher rates occurring among people of color. These figures underscore the pervasive nature of this issue across all communities.
During this month, we are called to reflect on the impact of sexual violence and to strengthen our resolve to support survivors, bring perpetrators to justice, and foster a culture where such acts are unthinkable. We dedicate ourselves to this cause not only in April but throughout the year, striving to create a safer, more respectful environment for everyone.
